Phonological Features of Manobo Spoken in Davao Occidental

The study provides a description of the phonological features projected in Manobo, which is spoken Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, as an effort to monitor status and vitality language. In eliciting segmental suprasegmental features, respondents translated questionnaire, pre-determined word list Cebuano vocabularies sentences, it was documented through audio-recording. transcribed words were rated International Phonetic Alphabet symbols. For those focused on length, stress, intonation statement form answering WH/Yes-No questions. identified total 42 phonemic units Manobo language’s phonetic code: nine (9) vocoids, four (4) vocoid chains, 15 contoids, contoid-clusters, 10 supra-segmental phonemes. Also, factors such age somewhat affect their features. Native speakers observed borrowing from dominant languages –Bisaya, Tagalog, English, clipping some native code-switching other when speaking. language still used home community; however, not being sustained formal institution. Finally, paper echoes call for future studies morphophonemic various speakers.
